Hundreds of residents cheered throughout the rubber duck race after each helped fill Palmer Lake with water they brought with them. The Awake the Lake Committee has raised over $21,000 in just a few months and on May 2 the Board of County Commissioners approved a donation of an additional $20,000 toward the purchase of well water from the town water department. The committee will purchase 30 acre-feet (9.8 million gallons) of water initially, then continue fund raising until they can reach the lake’s capacity of about 90 acre-feet (29 million gallons).
